🌟 Oakmere Class Blog – Let Your Light Shine! 🌟

We have had a wonderfully busy and exciting week in Oakmere Class, with lots of opportunities for everyone to let their light shine through curiosity, teamwork and learning. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

🌱 Science

This week in Science, the children became plant detectives! We looked closely at the different parts of a flowering plant and then went outside to our field to see what flowering plants we could find growing there.

We talked about how:

  • Roots help the plant stay strong and soak up water and nutrients
  • Stems and trunks hold the plant up and carry food and water
  • Leaves catch sunlight to help plants make their own food
  • Flowers make seeds so new plants can grow and often attract animals

Next week, we will be experimenting to see what happens when different parts of a plant are removed. The children are showing great curiosity and confidence as they share ideas and let their scientific thinking shine!

✍️ English

In English, we are working hard on writing speech sandwiches using the exciting scene where the boy meets the Stone Age girl. The children are learning how to:

  • Punctuate speech correctly
  • Make sure their speech makes sense
  • Describe scenes clearly using the past tense
  • Use co‑ordinating and subordinating conjunctions

It’s been wonderful to see children bravely sharing their writing and letting their storytelling skills shine.

➕ Maths

In Maths, we continue to practise the 9 times table and are building confidence every day.

We are also learning to:

  • Compare durations of time
  • Calculate start and end times
  • Understand seconds
  • Read the 24‑hour clock

🌟 Are you the Star of Seconds? 🌟
A big well done to our Times Tables Rock Stars winners this week:
Oliver, Kalvin and Olivia for their super‑high scores!

🏃 PE

Next week in PE, the children will be:

  • Taking part in athletics with the sports coach
  • Playing outdoor games with Mrs Kelly

We will also be starting rounders, which we’ll be focusing on for the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone who has returned PE kits — you’re helping your child let their sporty light shine!

✝️ RE

In RE this term, we are learning through Christian artwork to help us understand some tricky ideas.

This week’s focus is on The Incarnation. We revisited the Nativity story, beginning with the Annunciation, and talked about Jesus being seen as:

  • A Saviour
  • The Messiah
  • Emmanuel
  • A symbol of good news

The children are creating a guidebook, where they zoom in on artwork, label clues and write key words. They are learning how art can tell stories and help faith and understanding shine.

💭 PSHE

Next week in PSHE, we will be exploring the emotion of grief. The children will learn:

  • How grief can affect our bodies
  • How to recognise and understand these feelings

This is all about building empathy and helping children feel safe to talk — letting their inner light shine through kindness.

🎉 Congratulations!

A huge well done to Carson, our raffle ticket winner this week!

Thank you for all your continued support.
Have a wonderful long weekend, everyone ✨
