âĻ Oakmere Class Blog - A Week of Learning, Growth and Letting Our Light Shine âĻ
What a busy and successful week we have had in Oakmere Class! ð The children have shown great determination, resilience and enthusiasm in everything they have done. It was wonderful to welcome the Fire Service into school for a Bonfire and Firework Safety Talk ðĨð. The children listened carefully and impressed our visitors with their thoughtful and intelligent answers. A fantastic example of letting their light shine through their knowledge and behaviour.
ð English
This week, we have been writing diary entries based on our class text. The children have been planning, improving and sharing their ideas with their elbow partners. We have also been busy "magpieing" ideas from one another to make our writing even better! ðĶðĄ
The children are becoming more confident at editing their work as they write, focusing particularly on punctuation and spelling. We are looking forward to completing our diary entries next week and seeing how brightly their writing skills continue to shine. âĻ
ð Reading Journey Around the World
A huge congratulations to Molly, Leighton, Bobby, Grace, Kora, Robyn, Nellie and Myah, who have all reached England on our Reading Journey Around the World! ðâïļ
We are so proud of the effort and commitment they have shown. Their dedication to reading is helping them grow as confident learners and readers. Keep shining brightly! â
âïļ Spelling
Our spelling test will take place on Monday, so please remember to practise over the weekend.
This week's focus has been the suffixes -ment and -ness:
ð amazement
ð enjoyment
ð merriment
ð punishment
ð darkness
ð sadness
ð silliness
ð happiness
ð Reading Reminder
Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. We love seeing photographs and listening to recordings shared on our learning portal. Every book read helps children build confidence, develop vocabulary and let their learning light shine across all areas of the curriculum. ðð
â Mathematics
In Maths, we have been learning how to exchange when a calculation cannot be completed using the existing digits. The children have tackled this challenging new concept with resilience and determination. ðŠðĒ
Next week, we will move on to column addition with carrying, another important skill which will require lots of practice and perseverance.
Congratulations to our TTRS champions:
ð Archie
ð Coby
ð Kelsey
All your hard work at home is certainly paying off!
ðĶī Science
In Science, we have been investigating the different types of skeletons found in animals:
ðĶī Endoskeleton - inside the body
ð Exoskeleton - outside the body
ð Hydrostatic Skeleton - supported by fluid inside the body
Over the coming weeks, we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of each type and discover how these amazing adaptations help animals survive in different environments. ðð
ðš History
Our fascinating journey into Ancient Egypt continues!
This week, we explored how trade helped Ancient Egypt become wealthy and connected to other civilisations. The children learned about goods such as grain, papyrus, linen cloth and gold, which were exchanged for valuable resources like wood, precious stones, ivory, spices and perfumes. ðŠð°
The children have impressed us with their curiosity and thoughtful questions. Their eagerness to learn continues to shine through every lesson. âĻ
âïļ RE
In RE, we have begun exploring the Christian belief in the Holy Trinity.
Christians believe in one God who exists as:
âïļ God the Father
âïļ God the Son (Jesus)
âïļ God the Holy Spirit
The children will investigate symbols used to represent the Trinity and discover where these can be found in churches and Christian artwork. They will then use their creativity to design their own Trinity-inspired artwork. ðĻâĻ
â― PE
The children will continue developing their invasion game skills with our sports coach. Weather permitting, we will also focus on improving our core fitness and teamwork skills. ðâïļðâïļâ―
ðĻ Art
Our Art lessons have focused on Chiaroscuro, the use of light and dark to create dramatic effects in artwork. ðĄð
Using torches, the children explored how shadows and light can transform an image before recreating these effects using charcoal. Their artwork has been incredibly impressive!
Next week, we will revisit these skills and explore how artists use light and shadow to create mood, depth and tell stories. The children will begin planning their final pieces, bringing together all the techniques they have learned so far. We cannot wait to see their creativity shine through their finished artwork. âĻðĻ
ðïļ Celebration Time
Congratulations to Archie, who was our raffle ticket winner this week! ð Your hard work and positive attitude earned you a well-deserved prize.
As we reflect on another fantastic week in Oakmere Class, we are reminded that every act of kindness, every challenge overcome and every new piece of learning helps us all to let our light shine a little brighter. ð
Have a wonderful week ahead!
