Oakmere Class Blog – Weekly Update
We’ve had a wonderful week in Oakmere! The sunshine has been beautiful, and we’ve enjoyed getting outside as much as possible. The children have been working really hard and have produced some fantastic work.
Maths
Next week, we will be learning how to tell the time. The children will be reading clocks with Roman numerals as well as using 12‑hour and 24‑hour clocks. We will also be practising telling the time to the nearest minute and using words like o’clock, a.m., p.m., morning, afternoon, noon, and midnight. We’ll also be learning how many seconds are in a minute and how many days are in each month, year, and leap year.
A big well done to our Times Tables Rock Stars winners this week: Maci, Sebastian, and Albie! We’ve been working extra hard to beat our class record for collecting coins.
English
In English, the children are writing their own stories inspired by The Winter’s Child. We are focusing on using conjunctions, prepositions, adverbs, and exciting adjectives to make our writing even better.
This week’s spelling check will take place on 24th March. Our words are:
antibiotic, antibody, anticlockwise, antiseptic, antisocial, autograph, automatic, autopilot
Congratulations to Sebastian and Bobby for getting their reading certificates this week. Keep up the hard work boys.
Science
Next week, we will be learning about magnets. We will discover that magnets have a North and South Pole and create an invisible magnetic field around them. We’ll also test which materials are magnetic and look for patterns.
This week, we tested the hypothesis that different surfaces affect how far a marble can travel. The children loved working in the sunshine, rolling marbles and measuring distances—see the photos attached!
PE
In PE, we are practising handball skills. Next week, we’ll be combining throwing, catching, and moving. On Thursday, the sports coach will be teaching the children hockey skills.
RE
In RE, we will be learning about Wudu, the way Muslims prepare for prayer, as well as when and where they pray. The children will be creating a collage prayer mat and writing about what they have learned.
Geography
This week, we’ll be carrying out a materials audit around the school. We will look at which materials are used most often and sort them into single‑use and reusable plastics.
Music
In Music, we are practising our song for the Easter Service. We are looking forward to seeing you at the church!
DT
In Design and Technology, we are starting our new topic on materials by designing and making a Keepsake Box. The children will be taking apart a box to explore how it is made and what makes a strong, well‑constructed box.
We hope you enjoy looking at photos of the beautiful collages they completed this week.
French and Computing are taught by Mrs Riley every Tuesday morning.
Congratulations
A big well done to Oliver, our raffle ticket winner this week!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Kelly
