🌟 Oakmere Class Blog 🌟
What a fantastic week we have had in Oakmere Class! The children have worked incredibly hard, and it has been wonderful to see so many of them growing in confidence and finding opportunities to shine in different ways. I have been particularly impressed with the excellent effort shown in English, where the children have been using conjunctions to write more detailed and interesting sentences.
📚 English
This week, we began creating a character sketch of Katherine. The children have been gathering information from our class text and using their inference skills to find evidence that supports their ideas. We will continue and complete this work next week.
We will also begin exploring how to expand noun phrases by adding adjectives, nouns and prepositional phrases to make our writing even more descriptive and engaging. The children are beginning to see how small changes can help their writing shine even brighter.
✏️ Spellings
Our next spelling check will take place on Monday 5th October.
Please continue practising these words at home:
- angrily
- boldly
- grumpily
- happily
- hungrily
- kindly
- quickly
- softly
🔢 Maths
Next week, we will continue our Place Value unit. The children will be using their place value knowledge to add and subtract numbers. We will begin working with numbers up to 100 and, as confidence grows, move on to numbers up to 1,000. We will not yet be crossing a ten boundary.
Our times tables learning continues to go from strength to strength. Every maths lesson begins with a times table song, and it has been wonderful to hear the children singing along with such enthusiasm.

🎸 Times Table Rock Stars
A huge well done to everyone who has been practising on TTRS this week. It is fantastic to see so many children logging on at home and taking ownership of their learning. A few minutes of practice each day really can make a big difference.
🌟 This Week's TTRS Superstars 🌟
🥇 Archie
🥈 Leighton
🥉 Kelsey
Congratulations to all three of you for letting your mathematical talents shine!
🔬 Science
Our topic this half term is Animals Including Humans. We are learning about the importance of bones and how they help us move and stay strong. The children will be investigating how our skeleton provides support and how bones act as anchors for our muscles.
✝️ RE
In RE, we will begin learning about Christian beliefs about God. The children will explore ideas such as:
- There is one God.
- Jesus is the Son of God.
- Christians believe in the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- God is the Creator.
We will discuss what these beliefs mean to Christians and why they are important.
⚽ PE
The children will continue developing their invasion game skills with Mr Burgess on Tuesday.
This week, the class worked hard to develop their core strength through relays involving sit-ups, lunges and leopard crawls. Next week, they will take part in a circuit designed to build strength, stamina and resilience.
🎨 Art
The children created some wonderful still-life sketches using charcoal and the three-shape method. Next week, we will be looking at some of the earliest artwork created by humans and exploring prehistoric cave art.
If the weather is kind to us, we are hoping to head outside and use the walls around the school to recreate our own prehistoric masterpieces.
🏺 History
In History, we have begun exploring how the River Nile influenced the settlement and growth of Ancient Egypt. The children learned about farming and discovered how irrigation helped Egyptians grow enough food to establish permanent settlements and develop agriculture.
🌟 Celebrating Success
It has been lovely to see so many children letting their light shine this week, whether through their determination in lessons, kindness towards others, creativity in art, or resilience when faced with a challenge. Every child has something special to contribute, and it has been a pleasure to watch their confidence grow.
📅 Reminders
- ✏️ Spelling Check: Monday 5th October
- 🎸 TTRS and Times Table Practice: A few minutes each day helps build confidence and fluency.
- 📖 Reading Folders: Please send these into school every day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Together, we are helping the children discover their strengths, grow in confidence and find opportunities to shine both in and out of the classroom.
Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to another bright week ahead in Oakmere Class!
