Let Your Light Shine!

What a fantastic week we have had in Oakmere Class! 🌟

I have been so proud of the children this week. Their listening skills have really started to shine, and I have been impressed by the focus, determination and effort they have shown in all areas of their learning. It has been wonderful to see so many children letting their light shine through hard work, kindness and perseverance.

📚 English

This week, we completed our learning on adverbs and fronted adverbials and have begun exploring the inspiring lives of Rosa Parks and Katherine Johnson.

The children have been researching how segregation affected Katherine Johnson's early life and developing their understanding of the challenges faced by both women. Next week, we will continue this work and begin creating sentences using a range of conjunctions to make our writing even more interesting and detailed.

Our next spelling check will take place on Monday 5th October.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we will continue our Place Value unit next week. We will be ordering numbers up to 1,000 and exploring the value of ones, tens and hundreds.

We will then use this understanding to help us multiply numbers by 10 and 100 while investigating how the value of each digit changes.

Our times tables learning is also shining brightly! ⭐ Every maths lesson begins with a times table song, and the children have been joining in enthusiastically. We have started with the 2 times table and confidence is growing every day.

The children have done a brilliant job logging into TTRS independently and practising in school.

A little practice at home each day can make a huge difference, so please encourage your child to keep rocking those times tables!

🔬 Science

Our topic this half term is Animals Including Humans.

This week we began learning about the human skeleton and explored some of the important jobs our bones do, such as supporting our bodies, protecting our organs and helping us move.

🦴 Interesting Bone Fact: Did you know that babies are born with around 300 bones, but by the time they become adults they have 206 because some bones join together as they grow?

✝️ RE

In RE, we will begin learning about Christian beliefs about God. The children will explore ideas such as:

There is one God.
Jesus is the Son of God.
Christians believe in the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God is the Creator.

We will be discussing what these beliefs mean to Christians and why they are important.

⚽ PE

The children will continue developing their invasion game skills with Mr Burgess on Tuesday.

This week we enjoyed a fun Yoga session, and next week we will be focusing on improving our core strength and flexibility.

🎨 Art

We had a fantastic art lesson this week experimenting with charcoal and chalk. The children loved getting down on the floor to create their artwork and weren't afraid to get a little messy!

We explored chiaroscuro, which is an art technique that uses light and dark shading to make drawings look more realistic and three-dimensional. What a perfect link to our theme of letting our light shine! 🌟

Next week, we will begin creating observational drawings using the three-shape method.

🏺 History

This week, the children explored where Ancient Egypt fits on a timeline and map. We started investigating just how long ago the Ancient Egyptians lived and why their civilisation continues to fascinate people thousands of years later.

I'm looking forward to seeing the children's curiosity shine as we delve deeper into this exciting topic.
