π Oakmere Class End of Week Blog – Let Your Light Shine π
What a scorching week it has been! Despite the very warm weather, the children have shown fantastic resilience and continued to let their light shine through their hard work and positivity—even if it was a little sweaty at times!
To help everyone stay cool and calm, Mrs Hodge transformed our spiritual nook into a relaxing mini spa. The children enjoyed a refreshing footbath while listening to a story—such a lovely way to unwind and recharge.
Our Big Blue Day was another highlight of the week. The children produced some thoughtful writing about challenges facing our oceans and began exploring ways we can help. Alongside this, they created some beautiful ocean-themed artwork—such a wonderful opportunity for their creativity and care for the world to shine through. (Please see the attached photos.)
Although it was too hot to go ahead with Sports Day as planned, the children still enjoyed a fun-filled morning of activities. We will be holding a mini class sports day during a PE lesson soon, so watch this space!
π± Science
This week, our usual science learning took a little pause due to Big Blue Day, but we will continue carefully observing our growing seeds and recording any changes.
We are now moving on to an exciting new topic: Living Things and Their Habitats. The children will step into the shoes of young biologists, exploring how animals can be grouped and classified. They will be learning about:
- Physical characteristics
- Habitats
- Diets
We’re looking forward to seeing their curiosity shine as they explore the natural world.
βοΈ English
In English, we have begun working on our final piece based on Stone Age Boy. The children will be retelling the story while adding their own imaginative ideas—really letting their creativity shine.
We are focusing on:
- Using past and present tense accurately
- Including direct speech with inverted commas
- Developing rich and varied vocabulary
Don’t forget to practise spellings for next week.
β Maths
In Maths, we are building confidence and fluency by practising a different times table every day—please continue this at home, as it really makes a difference.
We are also continuing our work on equivalent fractions, including:
- Recognising fractions that have the same value (e.g. 1/2 = 2/4)
- Using visual models
- Finding equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing
Well done to our TTRS winners this week: Poppy, Kalvin and Thomas—great effort! π
π PE
PE will be on Tuesday morning, so please ensure kits are back in school and ready to go.
βοΈ RE
In RE, we are beginning a new unit on the Bahá’í faith. The children will learn some key facts, including:
- It began in Persia (modern-day Iran) in the 19th century
- It was founded by Bahá’u’lláh
- It teaches unity, peace, and equality of all people and religionsπ¨ Art
We have made great progress in our moving pictures project this week. The children have completed their storyboards and begun creating their backgrounds and initial scene pieces. It’s been wonderful to see their ideas come to life—next, we’ll continue building and preparing for filming.
π PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning about fire safety, including:
- Who keeps us safe
- When it is appropriate to call 999
- Why hoax calls are dangerous
π Congratulations!
A big well done to Albie, our raffle ticket winner this week! ποΈ
