Oakmere Class Blog – Weekly Update
What another wonderfully busy week we’ve had in Oakmere! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects, and we’re very proud of their enthusiasm and effort. Thank you to everyone for continuing to support their learning at home.
Science
This week in science, the children have been exploring magnets. They had great fun experimenting with different materials and using magnets to measure magnetic fields. Lots of excellent predictions and investigating—well done, Oakmere scientists!
DT
In Design and Technology, we’ve been learning how to strengthen and stiffen card as part of our project on making boxes. The children tested different techniques and are now ready to start planning which materials and methods will work best for their final designs. Please see the pictures attached!
English
We are nearly at the end of our Big Write, and the children’s fantasy stories are really taking shape. Their characters are imaginative, creative, and full of personality! Next week we’ll finish our stories and begin some editing—although many children have already been making improvements as they go.
A big well done to our super spellers this week: Carson, Sebastian, Kalvin and Poppy!
Maths
In maths, we have continued learning how to tell the time. The children are becoming more confident reading clocks with Roman numerals, and are practising using both 12‑hour and 24‑hour time. Next week, we’ll be:
- Telling the time to the nearest minute
- Using vocabulary such as o’clock, a.m., p.m., morning, afternoon, noon, and midnight
- Learning how many seconds are in a minute
- Reminding ourselves how many days are in each month, year, and leap year
Congratulations to our Times Tables Rock Stars winners:
⭐ Sebastian
⭐ Poppy
⭐ Maci
Great work!
Music
In Music, we have been practising our song for the Easter Service. The class is sounding lovely, and we are very excited to share the performance with you at the church on Wednesday.
Geography
This week, we have been learning about the 3 Rs:
- Reduce – using less in the first place
- Reuse – finding new or repeated uses for items
- Recycle – turning waste into new materials
We will also be exploring how our community puts these ideas into action.
Spring Fun!
On Tuesday, we will be having a class Easter Egg Hunt to end the term with a little fun and celebration. We’re all looking forward to it!
Congratulations
A huge well done to Maci, our raffle ticket winner this week! Keep it up!
We are very proud of Daneel and Sebastian winning the Junior Safety competition.
Well done to Archie, Izzy and Reuben for being our Sport Stars this week.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Mrs Kelly
