🌟 Oakmere Class End of Week Blog – Let Your Light Shine 🌟
We have had a very positive week in Oakmere Class, with the children working hard across all subjects and showing great enthusiasm for their learning. It has been lovely to see them applying the skills they have developed throughout the year.
🌱 Science
This week, we will be going on an invertebrate hunt around our playground and field area. The children will be using an Invertebrate Classification Key to identify the different creatures they find. We will explore a variety of habitats and investigate which invertebrates live there.
The children will also be tallying the number of each type of invertebrate they discover to help us measure the biodiversity around our school grounds.
We will continue measuring our plants to see how much they have grown over the last week. It has become quite competitive, with Sebastian’s and Oliver’s plants currently in the lead!
✍️ English
In English, we have completed our final big write, creating our own versions of Stone Age Boy. The children have produced some wonderful stories and have worked hard on editing their writing and adding features to improve it even further.
We will now begin our final unit on nature poetry, which will inspire us to write our own haikus.
What is a haiku?
A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem made up of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Haikus are often inspired by nature and help us capture a moment, feeling or observation in just a few carefully chosen words.
The children did very well in their spelling test this week. Well done to Kalvin, Daneel, Carson, Teddy, Reuben, Eliza, Thomas, Archie, Poppy, Hollie, Sebastian and Albie.
Don’t forget to practise next week’s spellings!
➕ Maths
In Maths, we are continuing to build confidence and fluency by practising a different times table each day. Our leader of the day chooses their favourite times table for the class to practise. The children are becoming incredibly confident with their multiplication facts.
We are also beginning our final Maths unit: Geometry. We will start by learning about clockwise and anticlockwise turns, right angles, and recognising and comparing angles in different shapes.
Well done to our TTRS winners this week: Poppy, Kalvin and Sebastian—great effort! 🌟
🏃 PE
We managed to have our own mini-Sports Day on Tuesday. I have attached some photos so you can see what we got up to. The tug of war was a particular highlight and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!
✝️ RE
In RE, we have started our new unit on the Bahá’í Faith. Last week, we learned about how this relatively new religion began and explored some of its key beliefs and features.
This week, we will learn about The Báb, who Bahá’ís believe was a Messenger of God whose purpose was to prepare the way for Bahá’u’lláh—similar to how John the Baptist prepared people for the coming of Jesus Christ.
🎨 Art
We are continuing to work on our storyboards, and the children will soon begin creating their paper puppets and planning their movements. Hopefully, they will have the opportunity to use a stop-motion animation app to create their own films.
💭 PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning about fire safety, including:
- Who keeps us safe?
- When it is appropriate to call 999
- Why hoax calls are dangerous
🎉 Congratulations!
A big well done to Poppy-May, our raffle ticket winner this week! 🎟️
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It has been a term full of resilience, creativity and kindness. Oakmere Class have truly let their light shine in so many ways.
Have a great weekend.
