What a wonderfully warm week we’ve had in Sandymere! The children have coped brilliantly in the heat, and we are so grateful for your support in keeping them safe with drink bottles, hats and sun cream. It has really helped them stay happy and ready to learn.

📖 English

In English, we enjoyed retelling the traditional story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We then read Goldilocks and Just the One Bear and noticed how the story was cleverly swapped around—this time, Little Bear visited Goldilocks when she was all grown up! The children loved spotting the differences and talking about how stories can be adapted.

⏰ Maths

In maths, we have been learning to tell the time to o’clock and half past. The children really enjoyed this and showed great enthusiasm.
We have been practising:

• The short hand shows the hour
• The long hand shows the minutes
• The minute hand points to 12 for o’clock
• The minute hand points to 6 for half past

Keep practising at home—it really makes a difference 😊

🌍 Geography

In geography, we explored our world by learning about the seven continents. We know that we live in England, which is part of Europe.
We have also begun learning about Asia, focusing on China. The children started comparing physical features (like mountains and rivers) and human features (such as buildings and landmarks) between China and England. A fantastic start to our global learning!

🚲 Upcoming Event – Wheelie Day

On Tuesday 14th July, we will be holding a special ‘Wheelie Day’ to help raise awareness of reducing our carbon footprint.

We are inviting children to:

• Bike or scooter to school
• Be able to ride safely and independently

Important:
All children must wear a helmet. If they do not have one, they will not be able to take part, as safety is our priority

 

⭐ Key Reminders

• Please read with your child at least 4 times a week
• Record reading on Learning with Parents
• Books are changed on Mondays (if they’ve been read at home).
• PE kits should stay in school all week
• PE days are Tuesday and Thursday

 

We are so proud of how the children continue to shine, especially in such warm weather—showing resilience, curiosity, and great attitudes to learning. They are truly living out our school vision to “Let Your Light Shine.” ✨
