Sandymere's Class Blog 16.10.26
Date: 16th Oct 2026 @ 3:36pm
What a busy and varied week Sandymere has had. The children have been building their confidence with new scientific vocabulary, learning important safety messages and celebrating how brightly they have been letting their light shine.
⭐ Sandymere’s Weekly Round-Up
🔥 Bonfire and Sparkler Safety
This week, we enjoyed a very important bonfire safety assembly with the fire brigade. Afterwards, the children designed their own posters to show how to use sparklers safely. They worked hard to remember the important messages they had heard and share them clearly through their pictures and writing.
🪙 Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about money and practising recognising coins up to 20p. It would be great to continue this learning at home by looking at different coins together and seeing which ones your child can name and recognise.
✝️ RE
In RE, we continued our learning about Christianity by finding out about adult baptism by total immersion. We learnt that some adult Christians choose to be baptised to show that they belong to God’s family and want a new start.
We also learnt how this follows the example of Jesus, who was baptised by John the Baptist in the River Jordan.
🧠 My Happy Mind: Team H-A-P
We have been finding out more about our amazing brains and Team H-A-P:
- Hippocampus: helps to store our memories.
- Amygdala: helps to keep us safe from danger.
- Prefrontal cortex: helps us to make choices, concentrate and solve problems.
We also practised Happy Breathing and talked about how this can help our Team H-A-P work well together, helping us to feel calm, happy and safe.
🔬 Science
Our scientists have been busy exploring different materials and describing their properties. This can be tricky because there is lots of new scientific vocabulary to learn and use.
You could support us at home by choosing everyday objects and talking about the materials they are made from and their properties. Can your child describe something as hard, soft, smooth, rough, flexible, rigid, shiny or dull?
🌟 Let Your Light Shine!
We ended the week with a very well-earned reward afternoon because Sandymere has collected so many hearts in our Let Your Light Shine jar!
The children enjoyed choosing time, playing outside and even watching a short movie in the dark. Well done, Sandymere. We are very proud of all the wonderful choices that helped to fill our jar. 🌟
