Sandymere's Class Blog 27.2.26

What a busy and brilliant week we’ve had in Sandymere!
๐ข Maths
This week we finished our unit on place value within 20. The children have been comparing and ordering numbers with great confidence — fantastic effort from everyone!
We’ve now started our new unit on addition, and Year 1 have been practising the counting on strategy. They have worked so hard to use number lines, counters and their mental maths to solve problems.
โ๏ธ English
Professor Klunk has been up to his old tricks again! This week he introduced us to some of his wonderful Faithful Friends:
- Midnight Fox
- Byron the Cat
- Latimer the Mouse
- Scruff the Blackbird
However… The Greap has been causing trouble, and the Faithful Friends asked us to help complete their Curious Quests. Our quest this week was to rescue the friends from Lava Lake!
To help them escape, we created wanted posters for a very cheeky new character from our class book:
๐ Nibbles the Book Monster by Emma Yarlett.
The children absolutely loved designing posters to warn others about the mischievous monster and his bookโnibbling ways!
๐ฌ๐ง British Values – Respect
Our focus value this week has been Respect.
Year 1 shared thoughtful ideas about:
- Why respect is important
- How we can show respect to each other
- What respect looks like across school
We’ve produced some beautiful display work to celebrate how we are respectful members of Sandymere.
๐ PE
In PE we have continued to explore team games. The children have been learning what it means to work as part of a team — listening, encouraging others and celebrating successes together. They’ve shown brilliant teamwork and positivity!
๐ Reading Reminder
