What a wonderful week of learning we have had in Sandymere! The children have worked incredibly hard and have shown great enthusiasm across all areas of the curriculum. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing as they continue to explore new ideas and skills.

In Drawing Club this week, we enjoyed the hilarious story The Diddles That Dummed. The children had lots of fantastic ideas inspired by the book and worked hard on their writing. Our focus has been on remembering finger spaces between words, using capital letters at the beginning of sentences and adding full stops at the end. We were very impressed with the care and effort children put into their work.

In maths, we have been sorting and recognising 2D shapes and discussing their properties. We have also practised counting forwards and backwards within 10, developing our confidence with number sequences.

In our Number Sense sessions this week, we have been practising recognising numbers on tens frames without always needing to count each item. We have explored different ways numbers can be arranged on a tens frame and begun to recognise patterns quickly. Please see the attached activities to try at home with your child. These games will help to reinforce the important subitising skills we have been learning in school. These activities will be for this week and next week.  

This week we used the laptops and learned how to use the trackpad. The children practised clicking, dragging and dropping by playing a fun interactive game, helping them to develop their confidence with technology.

In science, we investigated different materials and discussed which materials can be recycled. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas and thinking carefully about how we can help to look after our environment.

Our RE learning focused on places that I belong. We talked about the different groups, communities and places that are important to us and explored what it means to belong.

Building on our continuous line drawing skills and spiral patterns from last week, we created beautiful snail drawings on black paper using oil pastels. The vibrant colours really stood out and the finished artwork looked fantastic.

 

It has been another busy week of learning, creativity and curiosity. The children have certainly been letting their light shine through their hard work and enthusiasm. ✨

🏃 PE lessons take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
