What a wonderful week of learning we have had in Sandymere! The children have worked incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum and have shown fantastic enthusiasm, creativity and kindness. 🌟

In English, we continued our Drawing Club activities based on The Night Pirates. The children enjoyed using their imaginations and discussing the story, while also focusing on improving their writing. We have been working hard on remembering finger spaces between words and applying our phonics knowledge to help us spell independently. We are very proud of the children's growing confidence as writers!

This week in Maths, we explored 3D shapes and discussed their different properties. We also practised counting forwards and backwards within 10, as well as finding one more and one less than a given number. The children enjoyed using practical resources to support their learning and reasoning.

In PE, we continued developing our cricket skills. The children practised both underarm and overarm throws, aiming carefully to hit the wickets. It was wonderful to see their coordination, determination and teamwork improving throughout the lesson.

Our budding artists have been exploring continuous line drawings and observational drawing. Using shells as inspiration, the children looked closely at details, shapes and patterns and created some beautiful artwork. We were impressed by their concentration and perseverance.

In RE, we learned about religious and non-religious symbols. We discussed how symbols can help show that we belong to a group or community. The children learned that the cross is an important religious symbol in Christianity and shared their own examples of symbols they recognise in everyday life.

This week, the children developed their computing skills by using trackpads and touchscreens to create drawings. They practised holding, clicking and dragging to control the cursor and explored creative tools using Paintz.app. This is a free website that can also be accessed at home if your child would like to continue practising their digital drawing skills.

We have seen so many wonderful examples of our school vision, "Let Your Light Shine", this week that our jar is already filling with hearts! ❤️

Children and staff can award a heart when they notice someone letting their light shine through acts of kindness, forgiveness, helpfulness, thankfulness and consideration for others. We have been delighted to celebrate so many shining moments this week and are proud of the caring attitudes being shown throughout our class.
