A Wonderful Week of Learning and Adventure in Sandymere Class

We have had a fantastic week in Sandymere class, filled with exciting learning and a very special visit to Delamere Forest!

🌲 Delamere Forest Visit

Our trip to Delamere Forest was an amazing experience. The children loved exploring the woodland, and one of the highlights was completing the Gruffalo Trail, where they enjoyed spotting familiar characters and following clues along the way.

We also took part in a range of forest school activities. The children worked brilliantly together to build dens using natural materials, showing teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills. They explored the environment further through tree rubbing and tree identification, linking closely to our science learning.

It was lovely to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they embraced the outdoors and let their light shine.

🔬 Science

At the beginning of the week, we prepared for our visit by learning about the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees. The children also practised using tree identification keys, helping them to carefully observe features such as leaves and bark.

During our visit, they were able to apply this knowledge confidently in a real-life setting—such a wonderful way to bring learning to life!

📚 English

In English, the children have completed their fantastic stories based on The Lion Inside. They showed great creativity, imagination and pride in their writing.

Our Faithful Friends were so impressed that they have invited us on another exciting quest! They have sent us a new book, Goldilocks and Just the One Bear, which we are looking forward to reading together next week.

🔢 Maths

In maths, we have been learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children are beginning to notice patterns in numbers. We are continuing to practise counting in 2s and 5s, as these are proving a little tricky.

Any extra practise at home—such as counting everyday objects or clapping patterns—would really support their learning.

📌 Key Reminders

📖 Reading
Children should read 4 times each week. Please make sure this is recorded on Learning with Parents.
Books are changed on Monday if they have been read at home.

👕 PE Kits
PE kits are helpful in school all week.
Our PE days are usually Tuesday and Thursday.

We are so proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork this week. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they continue to let their light shine.

Have a lovely weekend,

Team Sandymere.
