Over the last two weeks, Sandymere have been busy learning, exploring and shining their lights in so many different ways.
History – George Stephenson 🚂
In History, we have been learning about the famous inventor George Stephenson. The children discovered that he was born beyond living memory and learned about some of his important inventions, particularly his work on trains. We talked about how his ideas changed the world and helped people travel more easily. This sparked some great discussions, and several children shared that they have never been on a train before. You might like to take your child on a train journey one day to help bring this learning to life!
Maths – Measuring and Comparing 📏
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of measure. The children have been comparing objects using the vocabulary longer, shorter, taller and shorter. We have practiced measuring length and height using non-standard units, carefully lining up objects and checking our accuracy. The children have worked hard to explain their thinking and use the correct mathematical language.
English – Curious Quests and Faithful Friends 📚
Our Faithful Friends returned with a new Curious Quest, bringing with them the story The Lion Inside. The children were inspired by the illustrations and wrote some amazing sentences describing what they could see. We focused on using capital letters, full stops and the conjunction and to join ideas together. The pride the children felt in their writing really showed as they shared their work with one another.
Art – Watercolours 🎨
In Art, we have been using watercolours to create expressive pieces of work. The children combined skills learned throughout the unit, carefully thinking about colour, shape and imagery. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented and showed creativity in their work.
Computing – Typing Skills 💻
In Computing, we have begun learning about typing skills. The children explored how to use the cursor, space bar, enter and backspace when typing. These are important early skills, and the children showed great perseverance as they practiced and improved.
Science – Senses Hunt 👃👂👀
In Science, we went on a senses hunt around the school. The children used their sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste (through discussion) to explore their environment. We then linked each sense to the part of the body that helps us use it.
As always, we are so proud of how Sandymere are growing as learners and as individuals. They continue to let their light shine through curiosity, creativity and care for others. Thank you for your ongoing support at home. 🌟
