Sandymere's Class Blog 5.6.26
Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 8:42am
This week in Sandymere we have been celebrating Interfaith Week. We have been learning about Islamic art, focusing on patterns, shapes, colour and light.
The children discovered that symmetry and repeating patterns are very important in Islamic art, as they remind Muslims of the infinite nature of God. We also learned that patterns and order are used to show respect to God.
We had lots of fun creating our own artwork! The children made:
- 🟦 Islamic patterned tiles
- 🕌 Symmetrical prayer mats
- 🏮 Colourful lanterns, using bright colours to represent light
🔢 Maths
In maths, we have been practising how to:
- Count forwards and backwards within 100
- Count in tens
We also learned that grouping numbers into tens helps us count larger amounts more quickly and easily.
✅ At home, please practise:
- Counting forwards and backwards, especially between 50 and 100
- Counting in tens
✏️ English
In English, we continued our work on The Lion Inside. We wrote sentences giving advice to Mouse about how he could be more like Lion.
We practised using the suffix –er to describe how Mouse could improve, for example:
- You need to be stronger.
- You need to be louder.
📖 Reading
A big thank you to those who are reading regularly at home – it really makes a difference!
📚 A reminder:
- Children are expected to read at least 4 times a week at home
- Books will not be changed until they have been read at home
Thank you for your continued support! Have a lovely weekend 😊
