๐ Sandymere Class Weekly Round-Up ๐
What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Sandymere! The children have worked incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum and have continued to show enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence in their learning. It has been wonderful to see so many children letting their light shine through their perseverance and eagerness to take on new challenges. โจ
๐ English - Drawing Club
This week, our Drawing Club text was Are the Dinosaurs Dead, Dad? The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the story and using their imaginations to create and discuss their ideas. We have been focusing on applying the phonics knowledge and handwriting skills that we have been practising in our daily sessions. It has been lovely to see the children's confidence growing as they use their sounds to support their writing. โ๏ธ๐ฆ
๐ข Maths
In Maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes, learning to identify, sort and group them according to their properties. The children enjoyed discussing the similarities and differences between different shapes and investigating where we might see them in everyday life.
We have also been comparing numbers within 10 using the vocabulary greater than, fewer than and equal to, alongside the symbols <, > and =. The children worked hard to explain their thinking and compare quantities accurately.
๐ข Number Sense at Home
In our Number Sense sessions, we have continued developing our understanding of tens frames and recognising quantities without counting each item individually. It has been wonderful to see how quickly they can now recognise amounts and explain their thinking.
This learning has been a focus for the last couple of weeks, and the children's confidence and accuracy have grown enormously as they begin to 'just see' how many there are rather than counting every dot.
๐จ Art
Our shell artwork has continued this week as we carefully observed shells and used water-soluble pens and water to create beautiful effects. The children were amazed when they discovered what happened as the water mixed with the pen marks. It was a real moment of awe and wonder and sparked lots of thoughtful discussion and excitement! ๐๐จ๐ง
๐งช Science
In Science, we have been learning about the properties of materials. The children explored different materials and discussed their characteristics, thinking carefully about what makes materials suitable for different purposes.
๐ป Online Safety
This week we have been discussing personal information and learning about what is safe to share online. We talked about information that should be kept private and practised our important online safety rule:
๐ Stop ๐ค Think ๐ฉ๐ฆฐ Ask a trusted adult
The children showed a good understanding of how to stay safe when using technology.
โ๏ธ RE
In RE, we have been learning about Christian baptism. We explored some of the important symbols associated with baptism, including the cross and the candle, and discussed what these symbols represent for Christians. ๐ฏ๏ธโ๏ธ
๐งธ History
Our History learning has focused on toys from the past. The children enjoyed finding out about toys that their parents and grandparents may have played with and comparing them to the toys we enjoy today.
๐ญ A question for home: Do you still have any of your childhood toys? If so, why not share them with your child and talk about how toys have changed over time? We would love to hear what discussions this inspires!
